I make this Kollu Podi once in a while when I get bored of regular idli podi. My family is fond of idli podi yes even kids love it so I always look for varieties of idli podi recipes. This podi is a super hit at home and no one even realized it had kollu in it. I just used my idli podi recipe with few adjustments for this kollu podi recipe and it turned out so good that I wanted to record it here with measurements.

About Kollu Podi
Kollu Podi is made by roasting and grinding horse gram, chana dal, red chilies, garlic curry leaves, cumin seeds, pepper, rock salt, and hing to a powder which is used as a side dish for idli, dosa and rice. Hot rice mixed with this kollu podi with oil or ghee tastes so good that you just need a papad for the side.
After reading about horse gram health benefits and weight loss factors, my interest for trying new recipes with horse gram has increased so keep watching for more horse gram recipes in future. Check out kollu chutney that I posted sometime back.
This podi can served be as idli podi or even mixed with rice and gingelly oil, it tastes so good. I usually make kollu sundal or rarely kollu rasam but now I have learnt another way to include kollu / horse gram in our daily diet.

Super Podi. Healthy and good for diet. The photo of podi with dosa….. mouth watering… One doubt, after washing the kollu, we need to dry completely under fan or little wetness is needed for roasting? Like the murukku mavoo mathiri konjam eerama irrukkanuma?
