About Chow Chow Kootu
Chow Chow Kootu is made using chayote, toor dal, coconut, onion, tempering spices and herbs. Kootu is a South Indian side dish made using dal, coconut along with vegetable of your choice.
You can even use a small pressure cooker to make this kootu quickly otherwise use stove top boiling method which takes a bit of time. This kootu can be used as a base for many vegetables like carrot, beans etc.
I always use this recipe as a base for most of my kootu recipes. You can even add rice flour mixed with water to make the kootu thick. This is one tip I learnt from my mother.
