About Frozen Yogurt
Frozen Yogurt as the name implies it is just thick hung curd with sugar frozen to make it creamy just like ice creams. The flavoring and topping options are endless – you can add fruits, flavorings, nuts, dry fruits etc.
Trust me the froyo was creamy and yummy which my toddler relished. You can try with any seasonal fruit and enjoy the healthy creamy low fat alternate to ice creams. So try this healthy alternate and enjoy!
Those days when I shot this, I didn’t had a ice cream scooper so that justifies the not so pretty looking scoops. But still the recipe and pictures are my personal favorite.
I made this mango froyo during mango season and enjoyed it

Froyo Ingredients
- Hung curd – Take curd add it to a muslin cloth and hang it to make hung curd at home.
- Mangoes – You can use fruit of your choice. I have used mangoes.
- Powdered sugar – Take granulated white sugar in a blender and blend to a fine powder.
- Lemon juice – Lemon juice gives a tanginess to the frozen yogurt.
- Nuts – Chopped nuts can be added for garnishing.
How to make Froyo
- Puree the mangoes, add lemon juice and 1/2 cup of hung curd to a blender.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the remaining hung curd and sugar till sugar dissolves completely.
- Combine the mango mixture with yogurt sugar mixture together and mix well.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Then take it and blend the mixture again until soft. Then refrigerate for 2 hours, then break the crystals and blend it again until soft. The more beating results in a smoother and creamier froyo.
- Then freeze again for 30 minutes and repeat the process. Repeat a couple of times until the froyo becomes creamy and soft. For the last time alone, do not freeze it, just refrigerate it for best creamy results. Garnish with chopped nuts.
I filled up the froyo in the ice cube tray (with shapes) which is shown below. When taken from the fridge it looks frozen once it starts melting it is creamy.
Expert Tips
- Hang the curd for at least an hour until all the excess water drips out. If your hung curd has water then the froyo when frozen will have crystals and will not be creamy.
- Adjust sugar according to the sweetness of the mangoes.
- You can even use strawberries or blueberries as an alternate.
- Lemon juice is added to make it the curd more tangy, you can very well skip it too.
Serving and Storage
You can thaw the froyo for a while then start scooping and serving. Serve scoops of froyo garnished with nuts and enjoy. It keeps well for about a week in freezer.

Mouth-watering, I do try many recipe of urs and mostly turns to be a hit. Yesterday tried the French toast – savoury version & it made my day. Thx a lot for sharing simple & yummy recipes.
I have a doubt in the above procedure, is it that we need to freeze only the third time (as u have mentioned in step 5). Is it enough if we simply refrigerate (without putting it in freezer) in the previous steps. Pz clarify
Sharmilee! :)
@Anon : You can freeze it so that it sets well in a short time….refrigerating takes time for the froyo to get set, but no harm doing that way too.
