Gobi Tikka is a spicy, flavourful appetizer made by grilling gobi florets marinated with spices & curd. Gobi Tikka also called as Tandoori Gobi is a good choice of side for meal and an alternate to the regular gobi starters.
Tandoori Gobi / Gobi Tikka serves as a great starter or even as a snack. As its oven baked/grilled its even more healthy cutting down oil sure better than the deep fried ones. First I planned to make it the same way I made paneer tikka…eventually I happened to see this recipe in a TV show by SK so made a note of it and here goes gobi tikka recipe from my kitchen.
Mittu loves gobi 65 and I was skeptical whether she would taste this gobi tikka……So I reserved only few gobis but to my surprise she loved it and asked for more.

📖 Recipe Card
Tandoori Gobi | Gobi Tikka
Ingredients
- 15 to 20 even sized florets cauliflower
- 1 cup curd
- 1 tablespoon gram flour / besan flour
- 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 3/4 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- a pinch chat masala powder
- 1/4 teaspoon jeera powder
- 1/8 teaspoon ajwain
- 1/2 teaspoon kasoori methi
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoon oil
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Clean cauliflower and cut into small even sized florets.
- Parboil cauliflower with salt….It should be soft yet crunchy enough to bite, drain and set aside.
- Dry roast besan flour till slightly browned and nice aroma rises, keep aside.
- Add a cup of curd to a muslin cloth and hang it for 30mins.
- Then add the thick hung curd and mix it with all other ingredients except the veggie.
- Mix well to form a smooth thick batter. Now add the cauliflower pieces and mix well.
- Marinate it for an hour.
- Meanwhile lay silver foil on the wire rack and keep it ready.
- Preheat oven at 200 deg C for 10mins.
- After an hour if you see it would be slightly dried.
- Now arrange the pieces on the wire rack covered with silver foil.
- Bake it for a good 30mins and grill it for 5mins until it turns golden brown.
- Turn over in between for even baking/grilling. Brush with more oil if you want.
- Sprinkle chat masala powder and serve Tandoori Gobi as a starter or as a snack with green chutney.
Notes
- For stove top, you can either deep fry the gobis or opt to shallow fry.
- You can even opt for full grilling but be very careful on the timing as it will burn the veggie easily.
- For tikka style you can use skewers and pin them alternatively with onion and capsicum.
- Keep an eye after 30mins as timing varies from each oven to oven.
- You can directly keep the marinated pieces on the wire rack itself.
- My gobi pieces were little smaller so they tend to fall in between the holes in the wire rack so opted to use silver foil and yes cleaning is easy too.
- Make sure to turn over in between for even baking.
- You can even brush it with oil after getting it out from the oven
- Sprinkle a pinch of chat masala powder while serving for extra zing.
- The more time it marinates, it will absorb the masalas well.

Beautiful recipe. It's really hard to find all the spices in Athens(Greece), so we'll have to improvise a bit:)
Regarding the Curd, we can use Greek yogurt (which is strained yogurt), right?
Also, instead of Gram flour, can we use wheat flour, semolina, corn flour? If yes, which type would you suggest?
Sorry, but it's really hard to find those ingredients here:)
Thank you for sharing this beautiful recipe with us!
SHARMILEE J
Yes you can use greek yogurt..Reg the flour cornflour can be substituted but no need to roast it.Hope this helps!
