Pizza sauce is very handy for a variety of dishes not only for pizza or pasta. Sometimes I spread it on dosa, oothapam, chapati add cheese and serve it for the kids and they absolutely love it.

About Pizza Sauce
Pizza Sauce is a homemade dip or sauce that can be used for pizza and pasta. This is a fairly simple recipe that works for both pizza and pasta. With just pantry staples you can make this flavorful pizza sauce at home.
I have tried a handful of brands that sell pizza pasta sauces and have not liked them as the fresh flavor was missing. Also the brands keep disappearing so it was hard for me to stick with one. So I decided to make my own batch of pizza cum pasta sauce and no looking back after that.
One thing that was in my mind was to make the process easy and quick as its going to be my keeper recipe. This is like a one pot recipe, cut grind and simmer in a large pot. Finally garnish and your homemade pizza sauce is ready.
I wanted one sauce that serves for both pasta and pizza and this is it. I have tested this recipe for the shelf life and its pretty good too. Also when you get tomatoes in bulk do make this and store. It comes handy for lazy night dinners.

Pizza Sauce Ingredients
- Tomatoes – Use fresh juicy tomatoes which is best for making pizza sauce.
- Garlic – Garlic adds a good amount of flavor to the sauce so its added while grinding and sauteing.

Few weeks back when I planned to make roti pizza I made this instant pizza sauce and it was really not a big compromise its okay to have it once in a while.
Homemade Pizza Sauce – 2 ways
- Traditional pizza sauce – Traditional version is made by pureeing tomatoes along with garlic and simmering it until thick and oil separates.
- Instant pizza sauce – This instant pizza sauce comes very handy when you are in a hurry and want to make pizza instantly.
How to make Pizza Sauce Step by Step
1.To begin with first choose 5 ripe tomatoes, rinse them well. Trim the edge, chop them roughly.
2.Chop it roughly as shown trimming the edges.
3.Add it to a mixer jar along with 2 cloves garlic.
4.Puree it fine without adding water.
5.It should be fine and smooth.
6.To a pan – heat 2 tablespoon olive oil add 2 garlic minced. Saute for a minute. Do not let it brown.
7.Add the tomato puree.
8.Give a quick mix.
9.Let it boil.
10.It starts to splutter so give a quick mix, close with lid leaving a gap at the edge for the vapor to release. Open and stir on and off.
11.Cook until raw smell leaves and moisture reduces.
12.Add salt to taste, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon chili flakes, 1 teaspoon oregano, 1 teaspoon crushed pepper.
13.Cook until oil floats on top.
14.It should be slightly thick but spreadable. Cool down completely then store in a clean dry jar.

Instant Pizza Sauce
Instant Pizza Sauce a quick pizza sauce that can be made instantly in just 10 minutes. An easy and quick pizza sauce that can made in just 5-10 minutes.
How to make Instant Pizza Sauce Step by Step
1.To a bowl add 1/2 cup tomato sauce.
2.Add 1 teaspoon chili flakes, 1 teaspoon oregano, 1 teaspoon chopped garlic, 1/2 teaspoon paprika powder, 1/2 teaspoon crushed pepper and salt to taste.
3.Mix it well.
4.Quick pizza sauce ready.
Store in a clean jar.
Expert Tips
- I used the regular tomato sauce we buy which is slightly sweet and spicy. Adjust spices according to the sauce you use.
- You can even saute garlic and add it to the instant sauce.
- You can add finely chopped onion too but I prefer adding it fresh while adding to pizza / pasta.
- You can reduce garlic if you want a mild flavor.
- Spices and seasoning are your choice, you can alter as per your liking.
- Instant pizza sauce can be made just before making pizza too as its very quick and easy to make.
- I had corn in hand so boiled and added it. You can use any vegetable of your choice.
Serving & Storage
It goes well as a pizza sauce or pasta sauce. Apart from that you can use it as a spread for bread, oothapam etc. Keeps well even for 2 weeks in fridge. The instant pizza sauce keeps well in fridge for more than a month.Use a clean dry spoon every time.

1.Can I use canned tomatoes / tomato paste?
Yes you can use canned tomatoes along with tomato paste to make homemade pizza sauce which makes an instant version as it does not need much of cooking.
2.Does the instant version pizza sauce differ in taste?
Yes it does as the instant version uses ready made tomato sauce as base. The traditional version uses fresh tomato puree which gives a chunky texture to the sauce whereas the instant pizza sauce is smooth and tastes more like tomato sauce only.
3. Can I use this sauce only for pizza?
No you can use it for making red sauce pasta too. You can also use it as a spread for sandwiches, rolls and wraps.
