Chocolate Cake Ingredients
- Flour – You can use either maida (all-purpose flour) or wheat flour for this recipe. I have tried with both and they work well.
- Cocoa powder – Use good quality unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Dark chocolate – Dark chocolate adds more chocolaty flavor to the cake. You can use milk chocolate too.
- Sugar – Sugar does the magic with cocoa powder – Use regular granulated sugar / fine sugar for this recipe. Use cane sugar if you are diet conscious, however you might notice a slight change in the taste.
- Rising agent – Baking soda is used as a rising agent here.
- Oil – Use any odorless cooking oil. Oil gives moistness to the cake.
- Milk – Full cream milk or toned milk can be used.
Mug Cake – 3 ways
- Microwave – With Microwave, it takes less than 2 minutes for baking. It is quickest method but I always opt for oven method as now I don’t own a microwave.
- Oven – OTG / oven needs preheating time of 10 minutes while we can get the flour blend ready and baking time is from 10 -12 minutes.
- Stove top – This works well too and is perfect for those who don’t own any oven but want to try mug cake recipes. But again the cooking time takes around 15 minutes.
Chocolate Mug Cake – Maida & Wheat Flour Versions
Chocolate mug cake is generally made with all purpose flour or maida. Since we started making it often, I thought of a healthy twist of using wheat flour replacing maida and cane sugar replacing white sugar. This recipe works great for both the versions. The kids will not be able to notice the difference in the cake so do try and enjoy!
