Jhal muri recipe a quick healthy snack made with puffed rice.It is a popular street food in North India, I always to try it and finally did it this time when I had puffed rice in stock.
Jhal muri or Jhal muri masala orginated from West Bengal and is now popular throughout India.It is so easy and quick to make with just few ingredients in hand except mustard oil but now its readily available in supermarkets.
‘Jhal’ means spicy and ‘Muri’ means puffed rice.

Jhal muri recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups puffed rice
- 1/4 cup onion
- 3 tablespoon tomato
- 2 tablespoon cucumber
- 1/2 cup boiled potato cubed
- 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
- 1 no green chilli
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 tablespoon sev
- 1 tablespoon coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon mustard oil
Spice powders
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chat masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon amchur powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black salt
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients one by one to a mixing bowl.
- Squeeze lemon juice and finally top with coriander leaves and mix well.
- Adjust as per taste and serve Jhal Muri immediately.

Notes
- I did not add our regular salt just added black and it was enough.If you want you can add it.
- My tomatoes were a bit sour so I didnt add tamarind pulp.You can add a 1 teaspoon of it if you prefer.
- You can replace mustard oil with normal cooking oil but the authentic taste comes only when mustard oil is used.
How to make Jhal muri
- Add all the ingredients one by one to a mixing bowl.
