Mung Bean Sprouts – 2 easy methods with a complete step by step guide to make sprouts at home easily. Mung Bean Sprouts Recipe with step by step pictures and video.
Making sprouts at home is easier and hygenic when compared to store bought sprouts.
You can even make mixed bean sprouts. I choose green gram as it sprouts faster.
I have shared 2 ways of sprouting green gram :
- Sprouting inside hotbox : After soaking the bean for 8 hrs minimum, drain water. Then add to hot box, keep covered and set aside for 1 day. Small sprouts start to come after 10 hrs itself.
- Sprouting inside a thin cloth : .After soaking the bean, drain water add it to a clean muslin cloth. Keep it inside a bowl with lid. Check it after a day to see sprouts coming out. This process stains the cloth so choose a clean white muslin accordingly.
Both work well but the difference I saw is the cloth method fastens the process and the sprouts are longer when compared to the hot box method. Also in bowl method its easier to check but in cloth method you need to open and see however you can see the sprouts through the transparency of the cloth. You can choose whichever method is convenient for you.
How to make sprouts?
- Though sprouts are easily available in supermarkets , I would highly recommend making your own batch. Its not only easy but hygenic when made at home.
- First to begin with soak the bean in water for atleast 8 hours or ovenight.
- Rinse it well, drain water completely. Keep covered in a cloth or a hot box for a day.
- If you want long sprouts then keep it for a day mine is after 8 hrs. I would prefer short ones.
- Anyways long or short doesnt really matter for the nutrition and health benefits it gives. Once it starts to sprouting itself, the nutrition is doubled when compared to the normal bean.
