Mutton Kulambu
Ingredients
- 1 kg mutton
- 5 nos garlic halved
- 1/4 cup small onion sliced
- 2 small tomatoes roughly chopped
- 1 tablespoon coriander leaves for garnish
- 2 teaspoon tamarind water
- rock salt
- water as needed
To temper:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 small bay leaf
- 1/2 inch cinnamon
- 1 clove
- few nos curry leaves
To grind:
- 3/4 cup coconut
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
- water as needed
Spice powders:
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon red chilli powder
- 2 tablespoon coriander powder
Instructions
- To a mixer jar add all the ingredients listed under 'to grind' to a coarse paste. Set aside.
- To a pressure cooker heat oil - add the items listed under 'to temper' add garlic, onion along with salt.
- Saute till onions become translucent. Add tomatoes saute well.
- Cook covered for 2-3 mins until it becomes mushy. Then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Saute for 2 mins.
- Then add cleaned mutton, saute for 2mins. Then add water till immersing level(little above).
- Pressure cook for 8 whistles in medium high. Let pressure release by itself.
- Open and check if mutton is cooked and add coconut paste
- Rinse the mixie and add the water too. Mix well and boil until oil separates. It will take at least 10 mins in low flame.
- Add tamarind water and let it boil for a minute then add coriander leaves, mix well and switch off.
- Serve Mutton Kulambu hot with idli, rice, chapathi etc.

Notes
- You can 1 teaspoon garam masala powder if you love more masala flavour in your curry.
- Thin the gravy according to your preference.
- You can reduce to 1/2 cup coconut if you prefer a slightly thin curry.
How to make Mutton Kulambu
