Salsa is a variety of sauce used as a condiment for tacos, tortilla chips and other Mexican, American foods. It is usually made from tomatoes, onions, garlic, green chili, spice powders, along with salt, lemon and coriander leaves. Salsa can be made mild or spicy, and is so versatile that there are so many variations and recipes.
Salsa is of different types which includes Salsa Roja, Salsa Verde, Salsa Taqueria, Pico de gallo which is one of the most popular salsa recipes. There is no better condiment than salsa as it is fresh, healthy and tasty. It can be used as a dipping sauce or a topping for salads, wraps etc. You can add it to your salads as it elevates the taste of the dish.
A traditional Pico de gallo uses the same ingredients like salsa which includes tomato, onion, coriander, chili, lemon etc. The main difference comes in the texture – In Pico de gallo the ingredients are chopped, has large chunks while in Salsa they are blended and has a slightly liquid consistency with small chunks.
You can use canned tomatoes or fresh tomatoes. However for the best tasting salsa use fresh tomatoes. Fresh ripened tomatoes when in season are the best for salsa recipe. I am not a fan of salsa but with tortilla chips I can have it once in a while.

- Tomatoes – Use fresh tomatoes for best tasting salsa. However you can use canned tomatoes too but there will be a compromise in taste.
- Onion, garlic – Onion and garlic gives a good balance and flavor to this dish.
- Spices – Pepper powder and cumin powder are used.
- Lemon – Lemon gives a tangy flavor and lifts up the taste.
- Coriander leaves – This gives freshness to the salsa,

How to make Salsa Recipe Step by Step
1.To a mixer jar add 1 small sized onion, 2 medium sized tomatoes roughly chopped, 1/3 cup coriander leaves(loosely packed), 1 long green chili(sliced), 1 garlic cloves(chopped roughly), 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder, 1/4 teaspoon pepper powder, salt to taste.
2.Add juice from 1/2 lemon.
3.All ready to pulse. If you have a food processor use it else you can use your mixer itself.
4.Pulse it few times to make it chunky and not too mushy.
5.This is perfect. Chill it for one hour at least before serving!
